The Steelers didn’t play football this week, but it’s safe to say things did not go well for Pittsburgh yesterday.

All three of their divisional opponents won, further tightening the standings in the AFC North heading into Week 7.

With every team picking up a win, the Steelers no longer hold first place in the division. The Baltimore Ravens reclaimed their spot atop the AFC North with a win in London vs the Tennessee Titans.

They do still retain second place, however, thanks to a tiebreaker win vs the Cleveland Browns and a higher win percentage than the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Browns improved to 3-2 after to a last-gasp missed field goal vs San Francisco, while the Bengals evened things out at 3-3 with a close win vs Seattle Seahawks.

The Ravens kicked things off with the NFL’s Sunday morning game in London, the third straight week with a game in the UK.

Baltimore completely shut down Tennessee’s passing game, limiting both Titans quarterbacks to under 80 passing yards on the day. The Ravens pass rush played a big part in that, totaling 6 sacks.

Titans starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill was carted off the field with an ankle injury and did not return. He was seen on crutches after the game.

Tannehill went 8/16 with an interception, while second-year backup Malik Willis went 4/5 after coming in for Tannehill.

The Ravens, meanwhile, did enough to win the game, but had trouble getting the ball in the endzone. Baltimore settled for 6 field goals in their 24-16 win.

Lamar Jackson went 21/30 for 223 yards through the air, and another 62 on the ground. He had 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Later in the day, the Browns and Bengals both hosted NFL teams at home.

In a soggy, muggy day in Cleveland, the Browns, still without starting quarterback DeShaun Watson, put the offense in the hands of PJ Walker, who went head to head with Brock Purdy and the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers.

Walker went 18/34 for 192 yards, but was picked off twice. Despite that, he arguably outdueled second-year man Purdy, who went 12/27 for 125 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 pick.

Weather conditions definitely played a factor, as a 49ers team used to playing in the dry and sunny conditions of San Francisco looked unprepared for the weather in Cleveland. Several costly mistakes allowed the Browns to stay in the game and eventually, take the lead.

With the Browns were up by 2 near the end of the game with the ball in the hands of Purdy, the 49ers were able to drive down into field into field goal range. However, a missed field goal by Jake Moody, his second miss of the day, secured the win for the Browns.

San Francisco lost Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey in the game, both whose absences were felt as the game entered crunch time. It was Brock Purdy’s first regular season loss as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Today marked the end of any undefeated team in the NFL, with the 49ers and later in the day, the Philadelphia Eagles finally falling.

Meanwhile, the Bengals and Seahawks traded early touchdowns in a game that went very back and forth. Despite Seattle’s Geno Smith nearly doubling Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow in passing yards (323 to 185), Smith did double Burrow in interceptions, and the Bengals defense held up late to deny a Seahawks last-gasp bid for a win.

Smith was sacked twice on Seattle’s second to last drive, halting a drive that had gotten near the goal line.

After a horrible start to 2023, the Bengals offense has been revived, and in particular, Joe Burrow is looking like his old self.

The Steelers are set to return to the field this Sunday in Los Angeles to take on the Rams. With each team in the AFC North gaining ground on Pittsburgh, Sunday’s game in LA becomes all the more important.
