As he prepares for the next chapter of his baseball career, former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tyler Glasnow has a major contract to help him out.
Glasnow, who is in the midst of being traded to Los Angeles, is inking a 5 year, $135 million dollar deal with his new team.
The 30 year old Glasnow is coming off his healthiest season in the major leagues. Injuries and time missed have hampered parts of several big league seasons for Glasnow, but last year he started a career high 21 games. Prior to that, the highest starts he had was 14.
Glasnow began his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, making his major league debut in 2016 and breaking into MLB the following year.
In 2018, he was involved in the infamous Chris Archer trade, in which he, along with Austin Meadows and Shane Baz, were sent down south to Tampa.
Glasnow, when healthy and on his game, can be a fantastic pitcher. He recorded a 1.78 ERA in 2019 and a 2.66 ERA in 2021.
His new contract, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, will start this season, meaning there are four years and $110 million in new money for Glasnow. The deal comes with a fifth year option for the team at $30 million, or a player option at $20 million.
Glasnow is in the process of being traded to the Dodgers, along with centerfielder Manuel Margot, in exchange for starter Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca.
