At 2pm on Wednesday afternoon, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas stood at the podium and took questions on the state of the current team, the upcoming trade deadline, and the road ahead.
There was a lot to like from this presser. Dubas acknowledged that the team needs to overall get younger, and he said he could not see the team, in its current state, moving out future draft capital to bring in players.
He seemed to, at least somewhat, shoot down a theory that everyone on the team (minus Sid, Geno, and Letang) are available, but did say that he has gotten plenty of calls about players on the roster.
There was also a lot to dislike, such as his refusal to put much blame on the coaching staff, specifically head coach Mike Sullivan and associate coach/power play coach Todd Reirden, and his lack of clearly stating what the problem is with the power play.
That being said, let’s take a deep dive into what Dubas said. I’ll touch on several key moments, including Jake Guentzel, the road ahead, the coaches, and getting younger.
