Goaltending has been a frequent topic of discussion surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ever since Matt Murray’s demise and subsequent trade in the 2020 offseason, the Penguins have suffered instability and poor play at the position. It has cost them on several playoff runs (think 2021 and 2022), and is one of their biggest weaknesses this season.

Starting goalie Tristan Jarry has a .886 save percentage and a 3.47 goals against average, while backup Alex Nedeljkovic has a marginally better .889 save percentage and 3.18 goals against average.

It’s not a pretty picture in net for the Penguins, but while the present day provides some challenges for Pittsburgh at that position, the future is quite bright.

The two best goalies in the Penguins organization do not currently play in Pittsburgh.
