Mike Sullivan’s handling of young players has long been a controversial topic in this town.

Now nearly a decade in on the job, Sullivan’s roster is not what it once was. Far from the days where Sullivan was behind the bench of Stanley Cup winning teams, where young guns like Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust were playing key roles, Sullivan has now shifted to favoring veterans over younger players in the lineup.

This conversation has often pitted fans against media, and while each side has their points, there are plenty of examples of Sullivan playing veterans over younger players, which is increasingly less sensical as the Penguins slow burn their way to a rebuild.

However, and there is a big however. I absolutely love, love, love the way he and the coaching staff have handled Rutger McGroarty and Ville Koivunen so far down the stretch here.
