Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates had a pretty good idea of who their leadoff hitter was.

Nine players occupied that spot in the order at least once during the year, but Andrew McCutchen led off 81 games for the Pirates last season. That number was more than twice the second-place man, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who took over that spot after the Pirates acquired him at the trade deadline.

Kiner-Falefa led off 40 times last season, and only two players (Connor Joe and Edward Olivares) had more than 10 appearances from the lead off spot.

This season, however, despite still having McCutchen and Kiner-Falefa on the roster, the Pirates had no one really entrenched as the leadoff hitter. The Pirates have played 27 games so far this season, and have already used eight different batters in the leadoff spot.
