Pitching has not been the issue for the Pittsburgh Pirates this season.
Whether it’s Paul Skenes pitching a complete game and getting tagged with the loss, Mitch Keller being 1-6 despite only having a 3.88 ERA, or Andrew Heaney’s steady hand on the mound, the Pirates are finding new and unusual ways to waste the talent they have in their rotation.
Pittsburgh was 3-14 in the month of May heading into Tuesday night’s rainy home matchup with the Cincinnati Reds. As the losses have piled up, the Pirates have blown quality pitching from their starting rotation.
In their last seven games heading into Tuesday’s matchup, Pirates starting pitchers had recorded a 2.31 ERA through 39 innings. Yet, the Pirates were 1-6 in that time.
