When the trade deadline rolled around last month, general manager Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins were pretty quiet.

Far from the days where Dubas saw himself as a buyer in 2024 and a seller in 2025, Dubas’ third act was a rather silent one.

His only move was to acquire forward Elmer Söderblom from the Detroit Red Wings, sending a third-round pick in this summer’s draft. That pick, originally belonging to San Jose and acquired through the Erik Karlsson trade, helped the Penguins nab one of the tallest players to ever play for the franchise.

“He fits a prototype that we really don’t have in our prospect pool in that he’s a very tall human being,” Dubas said on Söderblom in his post-deadline press conference.
