As PNC Park celebrates its 25th season on the North Shore, the Pittsburgh Pirates christened the silver jubilee with one of the most electric moments in the ballpark’s history yesterday.
Konnor Griffin, the consensus top prospect in all of baseball, made his major league debut with the Pirates on Friday, the latest step in the ushering of a new era in Pirates baseball.
Griffin, the ninth overall pick of 2024, was promoted to the Pirates on Thursday after he started the season in Triple-A. The 19-year-old had played just five games for the Indianapolis Indians, where he slashed .438/.571/.625 (1.196 OPS) during his extremely brief run in baseball’s top minor league rung.
And what a debut it was.
