When the NFL announced the implementation of the new Dynamic Kickoff, the Steelers were one of the first teams to respond accordingly.
Shortly after the rule change, which brought touchbacks to the 30-yard line and made any kick that landed in the new “landing zone” have to be returned, the Steelers signed Cordarrelle Patterson, one of the most legendary kick returners in the game, to a two-year, $6 million deal.
Over his illustrious career, one that has seen him convert midway through from wide receiver to running back, Patterson’s best work has come in the kick return game. He led the NFL twice in kick return yards, racking up 825 yards in 2019 in Chicago before following that up with 1017 return yards in 2020, also with the Bears.
Patterson holds the NFL record for most kick return touchdowns, and also led the NFL in average kick return yardage (2013, 2015, 2016), all while he was with Minnesota.
