The Pittsburgh Pirates entered the ninth inning of Tuesday’s afternoon game against the Philadelphia Phillies down 2-0.

At LECOM Park, the Pirates had one final chance to stage a comeback and win one of the final games of spring training.

Nick Solak kicked things off with a single off Phillies righty Devin Sweet. DJ Stewart, who is in competition for the vacant first base job to start the year, smacked a double to put him on second and Solak at third.

Nick Yorke then hit a sacrifice fly to score Solak and advance Stewart to third, and Bryce Johnson followed suit with another sacrifice fly to the outfield, allowing Stewart to get home and tie the game.

With the score now 2-2, the Phillies made a pitching change, sending Sweet to the dugout and calling in Josh Hejka to get the final out. Hejka was sent out to face Javier Rivas, the towering 6 foot 6 inch infielder who had played a handful of games in Bradenton this spring.
