The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the worst offensive teams in Major League Baseball.
They are slashing .224/.304/.341 as a team so far in 2025. None of those categories rank higher than 23rd in Major League Baseball, and their slugging percentage is a bottom three mark in the sport. They are a top-five team in one category: strikeouts.
They desperately could use a spark in any way necessary, and they have several options in Triple-A to try and find one. They have already promoted power hitter Matt Gorski (although they have rarely played him), and have some other names currently in Indianapolis that are eager to make an impact.
Nick Yorke and Billy Cook are the two that most fans will call for. Both players were acquired at the deadline last season as the Pirates tried to pick up some younger batting prospects that could make a major league impact. However, both players are off to semi-slow starts at Victory Field. Yorke is hitting .242 with a .702 OPS and Cook is hitting .192 with a sub-.600 OPS.
It might not be quite the right time to bring one or both of them up. But there is a player that is lighting up Triple-A right now.
Could the Pirates give Nick Solak a try?
