The Pittsburgh Pirates are a disaster.

In year two of Paul Skenes, the Pirates are off to their worst start in years and are currently on pace for one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

They are 14 games under .500 at 12-26. They are in the basement of the NL Central. They are coming off of back-to-back sweeps, at home against San Diego and on the road in St. Louis, and have lost their last four series.

General manager Ben Cherington and manager Derek Shelton have never been under more fire from an angry fan base that is sick and tired of losing.

Even for a team that had a tremendously underwhelming offseason, it’s nearly unfathomable how bad this team has been this year. Day after day they find new ways to lose games, each in more embarrassing fashion than the last.

But if there is any hope at saving the season and giving it any sort of relevance, it’s right here and right now. Reinforcements are on the way, and the Pirates have to pray that they provide a spark to an absolutely lifeless team.
