Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Penguins wrapped up their development camp with the annual prospect tournament.

The event featured four total games, culminating in the championship between Teams Stevens and Patrick, where Stevens won it. You can read a recap of each game here.

Last year, I named five players to awards for their performances during the tournament. This year, I am doing the same, but I wanted to get a little more creative with the awards I gave out. I had fun doing it, and I certainly hope you have fun reading it.

Best Second-Year Camp Player: Harrison Brunicke

Shortly after his draft last year, Brunicke made an appearance at development camp as the team’s first draft pick in 2024 at 44th overall. Now, after a season serving as an alternate captain with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL, Brunicke was back for a second year.

The 19-year-old put up five goals and 25 assists in 41 games from the back end. last year, and he brought some of that scoring touch with him to camp.

Brunicke was able to save it for just the right time; the right-shot was responsible for Patrick’s game-tying goal in the tournament’s third game, with just seconds separating his team from elimination.

In the shootout, Brunicke came up clutch again, scoring a goal that would eventually help push his team to the final, and a rematch against the team that blew his out earlier in the day.

In said final, Brunicke was pivotal in getting that game to another shootout, playing extremely well, even if in a losing effort.

Though there’s plenty of other reasons to be hyped about this kid, add his performance at camp as another one on the list.
