A lot has changed since the last time we saw the Penguins take the ice. There’s a new head coach, a new surrounding staff, and a new goal for the organization heading into this season. And even though the goal might not be to win the Stanley Cup this season, there is still a lot of opportunity to be had for players, both new and returning.

Training Camp Transcripts takes a look at the fringe NHLers, long shot candidates, and lesser known players who will battle for spots in the team’s lineup this fall. In today’s edition, Rafael Harvey-Pinard.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard was one of several Penguins who was signed to virtually a risk-free deal by the team on July 2nd, the second day of NHL free agency. The Penguins signed him to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775K at the NHL level, and $450K at the AHL level.

He was slated to be a restricted free agent, still with ties to the Montreal Canadiens organization, but the team decided not to extend him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent and walking him to the open market.

Harvey-Pinard made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season, playing four games for the Canadiens and registering his first goal in the show in his first game.
