One: I might not know a lot, but I know for certain that the NFL needs to issue a massive apology to the people of London, for what they were forced to witness on Sunday.
In what I can only describe as one of the worst games of all time, the poor people of London were subject to watching the New York Jets take on the Denver Broncos in a battle of who was trying to best destroy the legacy of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
While Denver eked out the rare 13-11 win over New York, this game featured some awful, awful offense by basically everyone involved.
There were no touchdowns past the first quarter. Jets quarterback finished with -10 net passing yards (more on that later), the worst quarterback performance in 27 years and worst ever by a Jet. Fields was sacked nine times, which is the same number of total completed passes he made.
Now usually, the point of an international game is to help grow the game of football worldwide and introduce new fans to the NFL product.
Instead, the NFL seems to be on some sort of rogue vigilante mission to further punish the English for trying to stop the American Revolution. I, personally, thought we were all past this by now, but apparently Roger Goodell and the league have not moved on, and maybe never will.
Either way, I think this went too far over the line. There’s got to be something in the Geneva Convention about this, right?
Two: I still would not fully count out the Baltimore Ravens. I know, that sounds crazy for a team that is 1-5, but follow me here.
Let’s assume they get Lamar Jackson back before next week. Here’s their schedule the rest of the way:
- vs Chicago
- @ Miami
- @ Minnesota
- @ Cleveland
- vs New York Jets
- vs Cincinnati
- vs Pittsburgh
- @ Cincinnati
- vs New England
- @ Green Bay
- @ Pittsburgh
I am not seeing a game that, with Jackson at quarterback, they should have a lot of trouble until the Steelers in Week 14. Plus. they have five divisional games remaining, giving them ample chances to make up ground.
Yes, Baltimore’s defense is terrible, but they have a real shot at outscoring their problems against a schedule like that. It’s a tall mountain to climb, but it’s absolutely possible.
The Steelers, who are currently way ahead at 4-1, have a much tougher schedule ahead. Some of their remaining opponents include Green Bay in Week 8, Buffalo in Week 13, and in Detroit in Week 16.
It’s possible for the Ravens still. Unlikely? Sure. But possible nonetheless.
