Kenneth Gainwell was one of the biggest surprise stories in the NFL this past season.

The former Philadelphia Eagle and Super Bowl champion signed a one-year deal worth a little under $2 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, switching allegiances to the other side of Pennsylvania.

His signing coincided with the departure of Najee Harris, the former first rounder who spent the first four years of his NFL career in Pittsburgh as their lead running back. But when the Steelers didn’t pick up his fifth-year option ahead of the 2024 season, the writing was somewhat on the wall.

That, along with the continued rise of Jaylen Warren, the undrafted back who has blossomed into more and more of a threat on offense, made for a natural transition in 2025.

Out went Harris, up was Warren, and in came Gainwell.
