Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has made the rounds amongst Steelers fans and media in recent days, as his frustration with how Sunday’s game went was visible on more than one occasion.

Towards the end of the game, the Fox Sports broadcast cut to a sideline shot of Pickens on the bench, slumped over and muttering something to himself. His body language said it all: he wasn’t happy.

But to be honest, I’m willing to bet many Steelers fans were looking exactly like how Pickens was in that clip, only on their couch instead of the bench.

After the game, Pickens declined to speak to the media, only telling Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he didn’t have much to say and that he was on his way out.

His frustration in that moment is one a lot of Steelers played probably shared, one that comes after you lose the way they did on Sunday.

Later that evening, Pickens’ Instagram account became the subject of some ire, after he liked a comment under his most recent post that read “nobody to get that man the ball tho” in reference to quarterback Kenny Pickett’s extremely rough day on the field.

Ideally, that’s something that would not happen. Regardless of what you think about it or Pickens himself, it makes people talk and it draws questions about his loyalty to the team.

But I think that liked comment from Pickens is more about his general frustration with the offense, not a shot at Pickett. And Pickens has every right to be angry about the state of the Pittsburgh offense.

It’s also important to note that Pickens has since denied liking that comment.

We’re now into year three of Matt Canada as the offensive coordinator, and if Sunday was any indication, literally nothing has changed even as the offense has grown and has another year under their belt.

The jet sweep on the first drive was almost a taunt to Steelers fans who have wanted Canada gone for a while now.

Canada’s schemes do not get Pickens involved in plays often enough. He’s an elite talent, and makes highlight reel catch after highlight reel catch (even when they’re out of bounds), and yet, he had just 5 catches for 36 yards.

But this has been a common theme for the Steelers under Canada’s schemes, the inability for big chunk plays.

George Pickens is the guy you go to for a big explosive play, but the Steelers have drawn so few of those up, it effectively neutralizes one of the many traits Pickens brings to the team.

How many times do we hear “he’s open even when he’s not open?” He’s just that good, and his ability as a deep ball threat needs to be better handled.

The Steelers constantly do opposing defenses a favor when they limit the potential Pickens has to be a big threat down the field. He needs to be used more.

And as for his frustration in particular on Sunday, he shares that with many of his teammates. He should be angry. He should be furious. The whole team should be after a loss like that.
