Former backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers Josh Dobbs led the Arizona Cardinals to an amazing upset win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, pushing the team to a 28-16 win at home.

Dobbs went 17/21 with 189 yards and a touchdown to help the Cardinals pick up their first win of the season.

Dobbs has started each of Arizona’s three games so far in 2023, but his hard work on the field finally paid off in Sunday’s win.

He played an extremely accurate game, and was not fazed by the tall order he faced today against the Dallas Cowboys defense.

Fellow ex-Steeler James Conner also had a decent day, rushing for 98 yards on 14 carries, including a touchdown as well.

The Cardinals defense did a lot of heavy lifting, limiting the Dallas offense just one touchdown and forcing the Cowboys to settle for field goal on multiple drives.

Kyzir White helped seal the game late in the fourth quarter, when he picked off Cowboys QB Dak Prescott in the endzone to halt what would have been in all likelihood a scoring drive to make it a one score game.

Conner did much of the work after that, powering his way through to reach multiple first downs as the clock ran out and Dallas was forced to use their timeouts.

A former fourth round pick by the Steelers in 2017, Dobbs served as backup quarterback to Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh during the 2018 season, recording just 12 attempts the whole year.

After losing out to Mason Rudolph in a training camp battle, the Steelers traded Dobbs to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 for a fifth round pick. He found his way back to the Steelers after Pittsburgh claimed him off waivers.

Dobbs stuck around the Steelers organization for a few years, but spent the entire 2021 season on injured reserve.

Since then, he’s moved around a lot, including a few late-season starts with the Tennessee Titans last season, before finally finding himself in Arizona by way of a Cleveland Browns trade.

With the Cardinals, the 28 year old Dobbs has finally gotten his first real chance at an NFL job, with Kyler Murray still out, rehabbing from an ACL tear.

It’s still not yet known how soon a potential Murray return is. Murray himself has said “soon” in regard to a return, but the team itself has been very silent on Murray’s status.

Sunday was the first win of Dobbs’ now five year NFL career.
