The Steelers announced that they have added punter Brad Wing to the practice squad.
The Australia native previously spent four years in the National Football League from 2014 to 2017, including a year with the Steelers in his first year.
As a Steeler, Wing punted 61 times, averaging 43.7 yards per punt. He was able to get 32.8% of his punts inside the opposing team’s 20 yard line.
While with the Steelers, Wing recorded the longest punt of his NFL career, booting one 71 yards down the field.
After the 2014 season, Wing went up against a rookie Jordan Berry in training camp to battle for the Steelers’ punting job. In the end, he lost out to Berry, and the Steelers traded Wing to the New York Giants for a conditional seventh round pick.
Berry would remain the punter in Pittsburgh until the Steelers drafted Pressley Harvin in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
As a Giant, Wing averaged 44.9 yards per punt, getting 30.3% of his punts inside the opposing 20 yard line.
He last played in the NFL in 2017, and has since been a part of several spring football leagues. He briefly played for the Memphis Express of the short-lived Alliance of American Football, and was selected with by the San Antonio Brahmas. the 23rd pick of the Specialists Phase of the 2023 XFL Draft.
In San Antonio, he played under legendary former Steeler Hines Ward, who is the head coach of the Brahmas.
Wing has had a lot of contact with the Steelers recently, working out for the team after Pittsburgh’s Week 1 loss, where Harvin struggled immensely.
Harvin has since rebounded with incredible back to back performances, but he’s been on the injury report with a hamstring issue this week after a strong game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night.
It’s unknown as of yet whether Harvin will be ready to go in Houston on Sunday when the Steelers visit the Texans.
