As the final seconds ticked down in Orchard Park, Bills fans sat in shock as they saw a chance at victory slip through their fingers.

With under two minutes to go, the Bills had a chance to tie the game at 27-27. A back and forth, highly entertaining game, Buffalo was driving down the field down by 3. After a bit of a confusing sequence on second and third down by the Bills and Josh Allen, Buffalo was forced to settle for a field goal.

Out came Tyler Bass, who had already made a successful field goal, as well as three extra point kicks, to try and tie the game.

From 44 yards out, Bass swept the leg and…

The kick goes wide right, and it cost the Bills the game. Needing one first down to seal it, Kansas City does that, largely on the back of Isaiah Pacheco, and the Chiefs advance to their sixth straight AFC Championship game.

After the game, video surfaced of a Bills fan being not so respectful to the famed Terrible Towel, belonging to the team that Buffalo had beaten a week ago.

The video appears to be from last week, when the Steelers visited Buffalo and lost 31-17 in the Super Wild Card round. This fan pretends to wipe tears with the towel, before rubbing it all over hi, uh…under areas, in what I can only assume is his best twerking impression (I don’t judge by the way! Dance however you please.)

However, curses work in mysterious ways, and now, one week later, the Bills have found themselves eliminated from the postseason.

The Bills are now the third team this season to become subject to the Terrible Towel curse. Back in Week 8, when the Jacksonville Jaguars met the Steelers, Jags players messed with towels after beating the Steelers. After that game, the Jags went 3-6 on the season, fell out of the division lead, and choked away a playoff berth in Week 18 with a loss.

The Cleveland Browns, who also had a player mess with the towel after beating them (this time in Cleveland). While the Browns did make the postseason, they were dealt a humbling 45-14 loss in Houston. That game saw the Joe Flacco comeback story come crashing down, as he threw two pick sixes in the loss.

Now, Buffalo is the latest to fall. This time, it comes in heartbreaking fashion with a wide right kick to end their season.

My heart does break for Bills kicker Tyler Bass. Unlike these other losses, he will feel like the loss was entirely on him, whether that feeling is correct or not.

As for the Terrible Towel, Myron Cope strikes once again, protecting the glory and honor of his creation.
