The Pirates signed Bruihl a week ago today, after the left handed reliever had triggered an opt out in his minor league contract he had signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Bruihl had pitched to a 4-0 with a 2.31 ERA and 1.114 WHIP in 23.1 innings with Cincinnati’s Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. He requested a release from Louisville on June 3rd, hoping to find a major league opportunity after putting together a really solid showing with the Bats.

That opportunity came in Pittsburgh, when Pirates general manager Ben Cherington signed him to a major league deal and added him immediately to the major league roster. In corresponding moves, the team had placed starter Quinn Preister on the 15-Day IL, and transferred lefty reliever Ryan Borucki to the 60-Day IL.
