Miguel Andujar’s time in baseball has been one wild ride.
From the heights of being a Rookie of the Year finalist to being buried in the minor leagues just a few years later, Andujar’s career arc has been one of the most interesting stories in recent time.
Andujar slashed .297/.328/.527 in his first full season with the New York Yankees and racked up 27 home runs and 92 RBI as a rookie phenom in the Big Apple.
He opened the season in Triple-A, but after an injury to Billy McKinney (who is currently in the Pirates’ system), Andujar got the call and never looked back, playing 147 games for the Yankees in 2018 en route to being an AL Rookie of the Year finalist.
In the end, he had the unfortunate luck of being a major league rookie in the same season as Shohei Ohtani, and the star from Japan had won as he took the baseball world by storm with the Los Angeles Angels.
No one could blame Andujar for losing out to Ohtani, but his career was looking plenty promising after 2018. Unfortunately, it never ended up happening.
A bad string of injuries hampered his next several years with the Yankees, and it wasn’t until 2022 that Andujar was regularly in baseball lineups again.
By that point, a large amount of his playing time was back in Triple-A, with New York’s affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
