Roansy Contereas is trying his best to rehab his baseball career on a new coast.

Roansy Contreras had quite the fall from grace within the Pirates organization. Included as a prospect in the Jameson Taillon trade with the New York Yankees back before the 2021 season, Contreras made his debut during the 2021 season, but really broke into the majors leagues the following year.

As a starting pitcher for the Pirates in 2022, Contreras went 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA. On a Pirates team that had lost 100 games for the second straight year, a then-22-year old Contreras was a bright spot for the organization, and softened the blow of losing a pitcher like Taillon.

Last season, however, things took a very bad turn for Roansy, as he posted a 6.59 ERA in 68.1 total innings pitched.

After routinely getting lit up as a starter, the Pirates tried to convert him to a reliever midseason. However, it didn’t really work; while some of his stats like WHIP and K/BB ratio did marginally improve, his ERA spiked two whole runs from his time as a starting pitcher.
