Last night, as the Pirates continued their Yinzerpalooza festivities, the team continued their winning ways and upped their winning streak to six games. The win was their second in a row against Philadelphia, claiming the series against the best team in baseball right now.

Pirates pitching was absolutely dominant. Starter Luis Ortiz went a strong 7.0 scoreless innings, followed up by a scoreless eighth by Aroldis Chapman and a one-run ninth by David Bedmar.

That allowed a late game offensive surge by the Pirates to take the game. Andrew McCutchen hit a solo shot to open the scoring in the sixth, along with an RBI double by Oneil Cruz. Then, in the eighth, Oneil sent a Cruz missile clear into center field for a two-run homer.

They improve to 50-48 on the season, and they sit just half a game back of a wild card spot in the National League.

But to tell you the truth: absolutely none of that matters right now. Last night showed just how badly the Pirates need to make an addition to their rotation.

Their jersey rotation, that is. Last night, the Pirates debuted a new look this season, sporting their usual black “Pittsburgh” scripted jerseys, but with a twist. The jersey was accompanied by black pants and the batting practice caps.

My friends, I cannot possibly stress to you how much we need to see this on the field more. This look is *unmatched* in Major League Baseball, and we in Pittsburgh cannot afford to let this go as a one-time occurrence.

As good as it looked pre-game, it looked even better in action on the field. It looked amazing at bat:

It looked spectacular on the mound:

And it looked particularly good when the team was celebrating an electrifying win:

This is not the first time the Pirates have tried an unconventional look with their jersey setup. We’ve seen their yellow “PGH” city connect jerseys paired with this cap and white pants. While that mashup was probably partially to avoid wearing any kind of black in nearly 100 degree heat, it was not nearly as popular of a combo.

However, this one seemed to have nearly universal praise among Pirates fans. It certainly helps that this uniform saw the Pirates pull out the win, but seriously, we need this look full time.

If there was anything that I would change, it might be to add a tad of red to the uniform. Oneil Cruz provided a bit of what that could look like with his red sleeve, but it’s yet to be seen if any red could be a part of a Pirates uniform going forward.

With it appearing that the Pirates are phasing out the “P” jersey (which they’ve only worn once this season), there’s an open slot for a new uniform in Pittsburgh’s jersey rotation. Here’s a chance to bring this combo into the fold full time.

Just imagine a blackout at PNC Park in October with the Pirates dawning these uniforms.
