The Pirates are a very funny team. Sometimes, we won’t know who’s taking the mound for them until a few hours beforehand. Others, they have multiple game starters planned out in advance.
Yesterday, the Bucs announced their starters for all three games against the St. Louis Cardinals, a home series that could prove to be their most important of the season.
Mitck Keller delivered in his start for the Bucs. The steady righty went 7.0 strong innings, limiting opponents to 6 hits and 1 earned run. Though the Pirates struggled to generate offense, they did just enough to secure a 2-1 win in the series opener vs the St. Louis Cardinals.
Today, Paul Skenes takes the mound in front of a PNC Park crowd that is sure to be buzzing (and maybe buzzed, who knows).
Tomorrow, however, the incredibly shaky Martín Pérez starts for the Pirates, and it’s shaping up to ben an incredibly vital start, not just for Pittsburgh, but for Pérez himself.
