The only positive to come out of last night’s 6-0 shellacking at the hands of the New York Rangers was that it was the first of a back-to-back.
There was no time to dwell on a nightmare start to the season (one that tied the worst home opener loss in franchise history), because the Penguins needed to get on a plane to Detroit in time for the next game.
While no significant changes were made to the Penguins’ skating lineup, there was a change in net. Top goaltending prospect Joel Blomqvist was called upon to make his NHL debut at Little Caesars Arena against the Red Wings.
And he delivered big time.
