It wasn’t the type of trade that perhaps a lot of Penguins fans have been hoping for, but the team has made a move.
Earlier today, the team announced that they have acquired forward Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 fourth round pick.
A lot has gone wrong in Nashville to start this season. After a massive spending spree in free agency, bringing in the big names like Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, the Predators are 7-11-3 and 7th in the Central Division.
But lost in the shuffle of Nashville’s problems is Tomasino’s mighty fall out of favor under head coach Andrew Brunette. The former first rounder has played just 11 games for Nashville this season, spending the rest as a healthy scratch.
In those games, he has just 1 assist, and even though some of the underlying numbers look good for the forward, the overall production has been lacking severely.
Tomasino was taken 24th overall back in 2019, three spots behind Pittsburgh’s pick Sam Poulin, who the team re-assigned to the American Hockey League today to make room for Tomasino.
