Wednesday night, I said that if, and a big emphasis on if, there was a chance for this Pittsburgh Penguins to claw back to relevancy this season, they needed to build on their 5-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

The team had gotten offense from nearly every line they iced, and defenseman Erik Karlsson looked like the offensive dynamo he was always supposed to be.

The Penguins did a lot of things right in that game…for 40 minutes, anyways. The defense fell apart in the third period, nearly allowing a three-goal lead to slip in the third period. Starting goaltender Tristan Jarry also stull struggled, allowing a shot on his fifth goal and giving up four on 29 shots (that’s an .862 save percentage, my friends).

But, I made sure to point out that despite another subpar start from the much maligned man, he earned the win. It was his second of the year, and even while his stats continue to take a beating, that win had to help him at least a little bit in the confidence department.
