Projections are such an interesting thing in any sport. But in baseball we pay far more attention to the preseason projections than in any other sport.

The ZiPS projections are a popular outlet for preseason player projections, and as spring training heats up and we start to get a look at virtually every player in the Pirates organization, I wanted to look at their projections for the upcoming Pirates team and decide whether I believed the player would exceed or fail to reach said projections.

For these lists I am only including players who are either a lock or have a very good chance of making the club’s Opening Day roster. For the batters, I’m separating it into two parts so that this list doesn’t just become an ocean of words. There’s no real method to the order, I’m just going by the number of games ZiPS has them projected to play.
