Not a lot is going the Pittsburgh Pirates’ way to open the year.
They dropped three of four in their season opening series against the Marlins in Miami, and their efforts to rebound against Tampa Bay started off with a harsh 6-1 loss.
Their offense is atrocious to start, with the Pirates averaging a measly three runs a game and have yet to crack four in any game this year.
Per North Shore Nine’s Jim Rosati, the Pirates were batting .184 in their first four games, and went 4-for-31 (that’s a .129 batting average) during their loss to the Rays.
However, as the Pirates get off to a horrific start to open the year, they did make a pretty good move. News broke right around first pitch that the Pirates acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations.
Canario was designated for assignment by the Mets back on March 27th.
