The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a flurry of roster moves over the last 24 hours.
Early yesterday morning, the Penguins called up a trio of forwards, all on an “emergency” bases. Emil Bemström, Vasily Ponomarev, and Valtteri Puustinen have all joined the team as the Penguins look to close out their final handful of games on the 2024-25 season.
That trio will help supplement the lengthy list of forwards that are now on the injury report. Veteran forwards Noel Acciari, Blake Lizotte, and Matt Nieto, as well as recently acquired Tommy Novak and prospect forward Rutger McGroarty have all been declared out for the rest of the season, although it is possible that McGroarty comes back in time for the team’s American Hockey League affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ playoff run.
With so many injuries piling up and the Penguins already being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, there is no reason why another young prospect currently on the NHL roster shouldn’t be getting top line minutes every night for the rest of the season.
