The Pittsburgh Pirates have done (nearly) the impossible.

In their quest to find new and innovative ways to screw their ace pitcher Paul Skenes and rack up his loss count, the team was shut out in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, despite Skenes pitching the entire game.

The Phillies beat the Pirates 1-0, completing the sweep and sending the Pirates further into the basement, now at 15-32.

Skenes went eight innings (with the Phillies not batting in the ninth), holding the Phillies to three hits and one run, while striking out nine, which matched his season high. It was the first complete game Skenes as thrown in the majors.

His only earned run against came in the fifth inning, on a play where his defense probably should have been able to turn an inning-ending double play.

For Skenes, his ERA is now down to 2.44 and his WHIP is down to 0.94. Unfortunately, pitching for the Pirates means that stats like those still give you a losing record. The Pirates are now 0-4 in Skenes starts in the month of May, and Skenes is 3-5 on the year.
