Cook was acquired from Baltimore by trade last season by the Pirates, as general manager Ben Cherington continued to stock Indianapolis with names in the hopes one of them could break through. Cook started the 2024 season in Double-A Bowie, playing in 15 games there before being promoted to Triple-A Norfolk. He slashed .279/.372/.485 in Norfolk before the trade, and slashed incredibly similar with his time in Indianapolis, going .276/.389/.486.
