One: Yeah, Baltimore is still going to win that division, aren’t they?
A division that is often seen as one of the best in football has turned into a tire fire this year. Only one team is currently above .500, and that team, well…they aren’t doing so hot themselves.
Meanwhile, the Ravens won against Chicago on Sunday, and now go down to Miami for a Thursday night game against a 2-6 Dolphins team. Even though Miami won on Sunday as well, the Ravens are still hopeful they can get Lamar Jackson back by then. If so, that’s a win.
A Jackson-led team at 3-5 can absolutely still win a division that looks as poor as the AFC North does right now.
Cleveland is, well, Cleveland, at 2-6. Cincinnati has a chance with Joe Flacco now leading the charge, but their defense still has way too many holes for them to be taken seriously.
And Pittsburgh has now been humiliated on national television in back to back weeks. As soon as they finally have some pieces for an offense, their highly paid and highly prized defense can’t stop a toddler. They still lead the division, but are a weak team at 4-3.
Assuming the Ravens can take care of business in Miami, this division really is theirs for the taking.
Two: Speaking of the Ravens, can anyone explain to me why Tyler Huntley was not their backup quarterback all season?
Look, I like Cooper Rush. I think he’s a fine backup, and he was one of the better backup quarterbacks when he was in Dallas. He had that crazy run taking over for the injured Dak Prescott back in 2022, where he led the Cowboys to a 4-1 record and had four wins in a row before the wheels started to fall off and Prescott returned.
Even last year, Rush did his best to keep the ship afloat and was 4-4 for the Cowboys. He’s a decent backup. But he is not the type of quarterback that Baltimore’s offense is built around.
Huntley is.
Even if Huntley is nowhere near the overall talent-level that Jackson is, the athletic talent and playing style is similar. He is the perfect backup for the type of offense that the Ravens run, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rush was 0-2 with some pretty poor numbers, while Huntley was able to lead them to a win over Chicago.
