It’s been a long, winding road for baseball fans and Kazuma Okamoto, the Japanese phenom who was posted by his Nippon League team and made the jump to North America.
That journey, full of speculation, intrigue, and so many conflicting reports, finally ended this weekend.
Okamoto signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, just one day before his posting window closed. His deal is four years at $60 million total, and he’ll join baseball’s lone Canadian team who is looking to storm back after falling in the World Series last year.
Many reports had Pittsburgh as one of the three finalists for Okamoto, alongside the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels. But it was Toronto, who flew under the radar for most of Okamoto Watch, who wound up landing the Nippon star.
