Bradenton, FL — One of the names that was set to draw a lot of eyes this spring was Henry Davis.

You probably know his story by now. The first overall pick in the draft back in 2021, Davis is about to embark on his fifth full season in the Pirates organization.

A Louisville product, Davis has accrued 186 major league games over the last three years, slashing a combined .181/.262/.294 (.556 OPS) with 15 home runs and 51 RBI.

He has developed completely opposite of the scouting report on his draft day, which suggested his bat was the selling point and questioned whether he could keep the catcher’s mitt once he arrived in Pittsburgh.

Davis, since the Pirates played him at his natural position in 2024, has blossomed into a great defensive catcher. He recorded just three errors last season, and his Statue of Liberty-esque posture in home plate relays has helped him tag out several aspiring runners.
