History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Last year, the sky seemed to be falling and the Pittsburgh Steelers were a mess when the Indianapolis Colts came to town. This year, the Steelers were shaken after another Thursday night loss on the road and needed to rebound.

Both times, the Steelers rallied for a win over the Colts. Here’s the stock report from Week 5.

Stock Up: Jaylen Warren

I mean, how can we start with anything or anyone else? Jaylen Warren was anywhere and everywhere on the field Sunday, leading the Steelers in both rushing yards with 101 and passing yards with 87.

Warren is just such a special player, and Sunday was another prime example of that. He makes every play exciting, even the mundane ones that you think aren’t going anywhere. That pass from Rodgers early on that Warren turned upfield for 80 yards was a perfect showcasing of that. I think a lot of other running backs settle for a modest gain there, but Warren expertly navigates the defense and (with some blocking help) turns a routine pass into a score.

Through just five weeks, Warren already has 410 rushing yards and 230 receiving yards. This guy is absolutely the team MVP at this point in the year, and I can’t wait to see what he does next week.

Stock Up: Germie Bernard

Jim Nantz and JJ Watt talked about it on the CBS broadcast on Sunday, but it’s worth repeating here. It is hard for a rookie wide receiver to earn the trust of Aaron Rodgers.

All the yelling, the arms up in the air, and the headshaking can intimidate a young receiver, and Rodgers clearly has targets he trusts throwing to. So, for someone like second-round rookie Germie Bernard to be playing this big a role in the offense this early on speaks volumes for how the Alabama product is handling his business.

After two pretty quiet weeks against Cincinnati and Cleveland, Bernard had a career-high six catches for 80 yards, including a 25-yard long. With injuries piling up in the wide receiver room, the Steelers need someone to step up in that position. It’s looking like Rodgers trusts Bernard to do that.

Stock Down: Pash Rush

It’s hard to find a ton of problems with how the Steelers played against Indianapolis, but one area I do wish we saw a little more out of was the pash rush.

Give the Colts and their offensive line a lot of credit; the Steelers were kept to one sack, by the hands of Cam Heyward. It’s great to see Heyward still playing at such a high level, but I do wish we saw some of the star edge rushers this Steelers team has get home to Daniel Jones.

Maybe I was just a little spoiled by the performances of TJ Watt and others so far this season. We’ll see how they do moving forward.

Stock Down: Kaden Wetjen

Wetjen was a highly-discussed draft pick back in April when the Steelers took him in the fourth round. A kick and punt return specialist in college at Iowa, the Steelers hoped Wetjen could provide a spark to a return game that has lacked electricity for years.

Five weeks in, we haven’t really seen that yet. Wetjen’s 8.6 punt return average through eight punt returns so far this season, 1.3 yards below the league average. He ranks 16th out of 20 qualifying punt returners.

The kick return numbers are even worse. In 19 kick returns, Wetjen is averaging only 22.5 yards per return. That is 3.5 yards below the league average, and ranks him 40th out of 42 eligible kick returners.

This Sunday, Wetjen had one kick return for 22 yards and a fair catch punt.

Stock Up: Aaron Rodgers

I was admittedly tough on Rodgers earlier in the year, especially after that New England Patriots game a few weeks back. But, I have to give him credit for how he is playing over the last few weeks.

Rodgers now has three touchdown passes in three straight games, joining Terry Bradshaw as the only Steelers quarterback to do that in a season. In his last three games, Rodgers is completing only 60% of his passes, but now has nine touchdown passes and is averaging a hair over 275 passing yards a game.

That’s such a breathe of fresh air for a Steelers team that has suffered mediocre quarterback play for years now. And for a 42-year-old quarterback, he’s looking pretty spry too. He had six rushing yards on Sunday, 16 in his last three games, and is escaping pressure in a way even 2025 Rodgers didn’t do.

Stock Up: Pat Freiermuth

Another one of the weapons Rodgers turned to on Sunday was tight end Pat Freiermuth.

A Rodgers favorite in short yardage, Freiermuth had five catches on seven targets for 44 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns. After a disappointing and relatively silent year from Freiermuth last year, it’s so good to see him getting used more in Mike McCarthy’s offense. For an offense that still relies on short passes, Freiermuth is a key guy to help operate that style.

Freiermuth, by the way, is on pace for over 13 receiving touchdowns this season. That’s nearly double his previous career high of seven, set in his rookie year and tied again in 2024.
