The Pittsburgh Penguins might not be competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the organization is still in the running for a few trophies.

Pittsburgh’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and their East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, are both in their respective playoffs this season.

The Nailers are off to a rough start. Wheeling has lost their opening pair of games to the Norfolk Admirals. The Nailers have been outscored 8-0 in those contests.

For the WBS Penguins, though, the postseason starts tonight. WBS will face off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in a proxy war between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia’s AHL affiliates. The Penguins are looking for revenge after a disappointing early exit last season, after Lehigh Valley bounced them in two games.
