Pitching is not the issue for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Their starting rotation is one of the best in baseball, finding ways to keep them in almost every game. The records of most of their starters don’t reflect things they need to improve on, rather they show just how let down the arms have been by the offense.

Pittsburgh’s bullpen, while not having the same brand value has the rotation, has performed pretty well over the last few weeks. They, too, have often done all they can to keep the Pirates in it, as the offense continues to flounder.

But even if the team’s pitching is undeniably a strong suit, you can never have too many good arms. So, seeing Isaac Mattson pitch as well as he is right now is incredibly encouraging for this team.

Mattson is now in his second major league stint of the season with the Pirates. He was briefly called up during the end of May, appearing in three games before he was optioned.
