Tommy Pham’s season could not feature two more polarizing looks.
From one of the biggest free agent flops in recent time to a scorching hot hitter, Pham has had one of the weirder 2025 seasons in the sport.
In his first 50 games as a Pirate, Pham slashed an abysmal .194/.278/.219 with a grand total of nine RBI. He collected just 34 total bases and totaled just four extra-base hits — none of them better than a double. He struck out at a 26.7% clip and only drew a walk 10.2% of the time.
Reportedly, a big part of the problem early on in Pham’s Pirates tenure was in ability to properly see. Pham’s suffering from keratoconus hampered his ability at the plate, and he was struggling to find the proper contact lenses to help him out.
In late June, he finally found a prescription that worked, and on the 23rd, his first day wearing the new lenses, Pham launched his first home run of the season.
