While the Pittsburgh Penguins are off to a surprising 5-2-0 start to kick off the 2025-26 season, they are not the only team within the organization that is playing well right now.
Down in the American Hockey League, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are a perfect 5-0-0 to open their season.
Leading that charge is prospect goaltender Sergei Murashov. A fourth round pick by the Penguins in 2022 and very highly regarded by the organization, Murashov has backstopped the WBS Penguins to four wins in as many appearances.
Murashov has a stellar .938 save percentage in the AHL so far this season, tied for the highest among netminders who have played that many games. He also has a 1.75 goals against average.
Even though the goaltending at the NHL level has been far better than expected so far, it’s super encouraging to see Murashov playing as well as he is right now.
Of course, it also helps to have some great offensive support ahead of you.
Five games in, seven AHL Penguins forwards are point-per-game players, and the team is atop the league with 21 goals scored.
