On Saturday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Penguins won a 5-4 thriller in the shootout, claiming a massive two points as they try to keep pace in an insanely crowded playoff race.

Yes, you read that right: in the shootout.

And on almost any other day, the Penguins winning just their second shootout in 12 games would be the top story.

But, arguably the biggest story coming away from this game was a goal back in the first period, and the reaction to a failed challenge that is part of a larger conversation taking place in the NHL right now.

After the Penguins scored two quick goals in the first 122 seconds of the game, Winnipeg was able to finally try and settle in during the matinee at PPG Paints Arena. Following some more Penguins pressure, a shot that missed wide and a subsequent turnover by Parker Wotherspoon led Jets rookie forward Brad Lambert streaking up the ice.
